Kick-Off Party

Monday, June 6th

Party Assistant

Description/Purpose: A volunteer party assistant helps manage details and lends support to the Event Coordinator during the party.
Responsibilities and Duties:

  • assist with setup (help move lounge furniture and set up tables)
  • help with volunteer sign in/sign out
  • manage shift rotation and breaks for volunteers
  • help attendees safely cross the road (using a handheld stop sign) between parking lot and kickoff party

Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years old or be accompanied by an adult.

Qualifications Needed: No previous experience necessary.  This position is ideal for friendly people with good communication skills.  Must be able to stand or walk around for extended periods of time.

Time Commitment: 4 hours.

Work Location: The Orchard at University Place, 575 East University Parkway in Orem.  Please check in at the center pergola located near the H&M entrance (on the north side of University Place).

Training: A brief training session will be held when you arrive for your shift.

Water Distributor

Description/Purpose: A water distributor passes out water to party attendees.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • open cases of water bottles
  • hand water botles to attendees at water station
  • regulate lines
  • keep water station and surrounding area clean

Age Requirement: Must be at least 12 years old or be accompanied by an adult.

Qualifications Needed: No previous experience necessary.  This position is for all abilities.

Time Commitment: 2 hours.

Work Location: The Orchard at Univeristy Place, 575 East University Parkway in Orem.  Please check in at the center pergola located near the H&M entrance (on the north side of University Place).

Training: A brief training session will be held when you arrive for your shift.

Kids' Crafts Helpers

Description/Purpose: A kids crafts assistant helps children participate in the free activities at City Park.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • set up and clean up the craft area
  • help kids select and make crafts
  • manage the line for face painting and balloon tying
  • help usher children during shows (Scales and Tales, Juggle Nutz, etc)

Age Requirement: Must be at least 12 years old or be accompanied by an adult.

Qualifications Needed: No previous experience necessary.  This position is ideal for friendly people who enjoy assisting children and their parents.  Some craft experience is helpful but not necessary.

Time Commitment: 1-5 hours.

Work Location: City Park, 300 East Center in Orem.  Meet under the big pavilion located just east of the All Together Playground.

Training: A brief training session will be held when you arrive for your shift.

Support: Kids’ crafts assistants will primarily report to a representative on duty from the kids’ crafts committee.

Table Cleaner

Description/Purpose: A table cleaner helps keep picnic tables clean (gloves and cleaning supplies are provided).

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • help clean food and spills from picnic tables

Qualifications Needed: No previous experience necessary.  This position is ideal for friendly people who enjoy cleaning.  Must be able to walk over uneven/grassy areas.

Info Booth Assistant

Description/Purpose: An information booth assistant guides park patrons in finding information about a specific activity or event.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • greet park patrons
  • answer questions and give directions
  • assist lost children in finding a police officer
  • maintain the ‘lost and found’ box

Age Requirement: Must be at least 12 years old or be accompanied by an adult.

Qualifications Needed: No previous experience necessary.  This position is ideal for friendly people with good communication skills who want lots of interaction with park patrons.

Time Commitment: 3 hours.

Work Location: City Park, 300 East Center in Orem.

Parking Lot Floater

Description/Purpose: A floater checks that fellow volunteers in the parking lots have adequate water and refreshments; and assists them when needed.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • deliver water and refreshments to parking lot volunteers
  • answer questions and five diretions to park patrons
  • assist lost children in finding a police officer

Age Requirement: Must be at least 12 years old or be accompanied by an adult.

Qualifications Needed: No previous experience necessary.  This position is ideal for friendly people with good communication skills.  Must be able to walk over uneven/grassy areas while pulilng a lightweight cart.

Time Commitment: 3 hours.

Work Location: City Park, 300 East Center in Orem.

Grand Parade

Saturday, June 11th

Parade Judge Assistant

Description/Purpose: A parade judging assistant helps distribute voting supplies to the parade entry judges at the parade staging area.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • carry, distribute, and collect clipboards used by the city council for voting
  • hand out water to the judges, as needed
  • run errands for the parade coordinator, as needed
  • help the parade coordinator tally votes to determine parade entry winners
  • pass out eight vinyl banners to the parade entry winners

Age Requirement: Must be at least 14 years old or be accompanied by an adult.

Qualifications Needed: No previous experience necessary.  This position is ideal for friendly people who have access to a cell phone (to coordinate with the parade coordinator).  Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time.

Time Commitment: 2 hours.

Parade Banner Carrier

Description/Purpose: A parade banner carrier walks in the evening parade with fellow volunteers while carrying a vinyl banner that recognizes the specific parade entries.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist fellow volunteers in carrying 6 vinyl banners along the parade route
  • Carry the banners in front of the winning entries
  • Return banners to the designated area at the end of the parade route

Age Requirement: Must be at least 12 years old or be accompanied by an adult.

Qualifications Needed: No previous experience necessary.  This position is ideal for friendly people who enjoy walking and interacting with large crowds.

Time Commitment: 3 hours.

Work Location: Meet at the check-in booth located near the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building at 545 South 800 East in Orem.

Training: A brief training session will be held when you arrive for your shift.

Parade Banner Gatherer

Description/Purpose: A parade banner gatherer directs the volunteers carrying eight vinyl banners to a drop-off location at the end of the parade route.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • assist in gathering eight vinyl banners from fellow volunteers during parade
  • place banners in a neat pile for pickup on Sunday

Age Requirement: Must be at least 12 years old or be accompanied by an adult.

Qualifications Needed: No previous experience necessary.  This position is ideal for friendly people who have access to a cell phone (to coordinate with the parade coordinator) and can look out for the eight banners (a list of banners will be provided).

Time Commitment: 4 hours.

Work Location: meet at the check-in booth located near the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building at 545 South 800 East in Orem.

Training: A brief training session will be held when you arrive for your shift.
